Culture, art and charity in the old center of Bucharest for action and transformation of villages in southern Romania

09/12/2011

PACT Foundation held Wednesday, December 7th, from 19.30 at Café Godot Theatre, a medieval theme party, which is the second fundraising event from private sources for the Community Fund for action and transformation of villages in southern Romania. The total amount collected at this event, of 8754 lei, from selling tickets, "all pay" auction (everyone pays) for special objects donated and classic auction for works of art offered by artists, will be used to support projects initiated by groups of citizens in rural communities in southern Romania.

You can see photos from the event here.

Wanting to rebuild Romanian medieval atmosphere, PACT Foundation and his friends have prepared a show gracefully presented by popular actress from the National Theatre in Bucharest, Lamia Beligan. Master’s Radu Beligan daughter contributed to the Community Fund herself, bidding for one of the special items donated by PACT Foundation friends - collection wine from Rotenberg cellars, generously offered by Michael Rothenberg.

Painter Mircea Nechita, donor of engravings and art objects for auction, motivated his gesture during the event: "I'm glad to see that PACT does something for the village, helping people fend for themselves, because we all know that story about learning someone fishing instead of giving him fish – this is what PACT is doing. I think our help can mean something, to make a difference, being well used by the Foundation."

About 80 people attended the event: leaders of the initiative groups formed and supported by PACT Foundation team in the five rounds of community interventions, business representatives, partners and donors of the PACT Foundation, PACT board members, consultants and facilitators, sponsors and partners in making the event, journalists, friends from other NGOs, volunteers and other guests eager to contribute to the development of rural communities in Romania.

"I came to PACT Foundation event in the first phase of curiosity, but I was impressed by what people can do for their peers and I wanted to help out. I attended the auction in order to help implement community development projects in rural areas. I wish to participate in these events in the future and I hope to bring other people in the PACT family. If we do not help each other, then who will?" Ioana Nedelescu, ING consultant and one of the most generous donors.
