On the 18th of May 2010, the Romanian Donor's Forum and PACT Foundation addressed an open letter to the Romanian Government and the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF), in order to trigger an alarm signal regarding de dysfunctions related to the application of the 2% mechanism.
Here are the main results of this initiative, centralized by the Romanian Donor's Foundation, 5 days after the letter has been sent:
- 70 organisations have signed the letter
- Europa FM radio station broadcasted news regarding the matter, both on May 17th and on May 20th
- On the 20th of May, ANAF vicepresident, Mr Gogoncea presented public excuses on behalf of his institution, for the problems caused to nongovernmental organisations. As a reaction to this position, the Romanian Donor's Forum sent a letter to ANAF requesting that the content of the inter-institutional letter that had been sent in order to cancel the effects of the former inter-institutional letter that had caused the problems, should be publicly available.
- during this time, the Romanian Prime Minister and the President of ANAF have periodically received updates on the letter and its signer
- more problems related to the application of the 2% mechanism have been signaled; the Romanian Donor's Forum proposes that a meeting should be organized in order to discuss this issue with all stakeholders
